Minerva is a Roman goddess who shares a lot with the Greek Athena. Like Athena, she is the goddess of Wisdom. She was born from her father’s head and has a lot of the same iconography, including the owl. Unlike Athena, however, Minerva was worshipped as part of a triad with Juno and Jupiter. Her areas of influence include not only wisdom and strategy, but medicine and artistic accomplishment. Here, she wears a ceremonial Corinthian helmet and carries a foot soldier’s pilum.
