Artemis. 2nd century CE, from ancient city of Perge. Antalya Archaeological Museum. Photograph by Izabela Miszczak.

Artemis was revered as “Mistress of Perge” since the 4th century BCE., and the temple of Artemis Pergaia became a major cult center. The sanctuary was destroyed by Christians during the reign of Diocletian, but worship of the goddess in the area persisted. Legends say that St. Nicholas cut down a tree sacred to the goddess Diana, and destroyed statues of the goddess during the reign of Constantine.

Today,  you are invited to join with people all around the world in making a libation to Artemis or Diana.
