Flora Fountain by James Forsyth, 1864. Martyr’s Square, Mumbai, India. Portland stone.

Flora was one of only fifteen Roman deities to have a state-supported high priest. The Sabine kings established her worship in Rome, and a temple was built to honor her around 237 BCE. Floralia festivities were accompanied by the release of wild hares and goats, and included

theatrical performances and games.
