Portus, the principal maritime harbor of the city of Rome, based on a 16th-century fresco at the Vatican Palace. Construction of Portus began under the Emperor Claudius. Portus is located about 32 km/20 miles southwest of Rome, on the coast of the

Tyrrhenian Sea.

Today is the Portunalia, a festival dedicated to Portunus, the Roman god of keys, door and gates, ports and harbors.
