On this date, the final day of the Eleusinian Mysteries, a historical note that
the Emperor Hadrian received his second initiation in 128 C.E., and Antinous probably received his first initiation.
At some point after Antinous’ death in 130, this statue of Antinous as either Asclepius or Dionysos
Iakkhos
was dedicated at Eleusis, and displayed in the outer court of the sanctuary of Demeter and Kore.
