Making Attar of Roses in an Ancient Greek Temple by Arthur Drummond,1894.
Attar of roses is the essential oil extracted from rose petals. As an ingredient in perfume, it was thought to attract love to the wearer. Attar of roses also has a history of medicinal use. As a therapeutic, it has been used to calm the nerves, as an antibacterial agent, and to support a healthy immune system against a variety of diseases. Because it requires 1,400,000 handpicked rose blossoms to produce a liter of rose oil, many commercially available products are blended with oil of geranium or sandalwood.
